CGMF announces new dual leadership structure
Marilu Hastings, left, and Katherine Lorenz were named executive vice president and president, respectively, as part of a new dual leadership structure at the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation.
AUSTIN (February 1, 2022)— The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation named Katherine Lorenz and Marilu Hastings as president and executive vice president, respectively, as part of a new dual leadership structure at CGMF, the foundation’s board of directors announced today.
Lorenz, CGMF’s former board chair, returns to the position she served in from 2011 through 2020, joined by Hastings, who most recently served as the foundation’s chief innovation and strategy officer.
“On behalf of the board of directors of the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, I am delighted that Katherine and Marilu will share defined responsibilities in this new collaborative structure,” said Grant Mitchell, CGMF's board chair. “This unconventional approach is fitting for our organization—utilizing two innovative thinkers who have been dedicated to Cynthia and George Mitchell’s vision and legacy for more than a decade.”
Lorenz will be responsible for the foundation’s strategic, financial, and management operations, working with CGMF’s board and staff to improve decision-making processes and ensure that the foundation’s priorities align with the mission and values of benefactors Cynthia and George Mitchell. She will also collaborate with alliances and partners to ensure the foundation maximizes its role and impact as a disruptive, change-making influence in Texas and beyond.
Hastings will serve as a catalyst for enhancing the programmatic direction of the foundation. She will guide the conception and implementation of programs and initiatives with the program teams to ensure the foundation’s existing strategies take a systemic approach to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Texas and our world. In addition, Hastings will continue to direct the Mitchell Innovation Lab, a varied portfolio of breakthrough sustainability ideas and opportunities that the foundation develops and incubates.
The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, with offices in Austin and The Woodlands, is a grantmaking foundation that seeks innovative, sustainable solutions for human and environmental problems. The foundation works as an engine of change in both policy and practice in Texas, supporting high-impact projects and practices at the nexus of environmental protection, social equity, and economic vibrancy.
