Leyah Mathew
Associate, Clean Energy and Subsurface Energy Programs
Leyah Mathew is the program associate for the clean energy and subsurface energy programs at the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation. She provides program, research, and grant administration support for the foundation’s energy programs.
Leyah has worked in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. She provided project management and research support on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics as a Corporate Affairs Intern at Chevron in their Corporate Strategy & Sustainability group. As a fellow in the Baker Institute for Public Policy’s Jesse Jones Leadership Center Summer in D.C. Policy Research Program, she assisted with research on international development and education at the Brookings Institution. She also produced research on state and federal economic policies as an intern at the Baker Institute’s McNair Center for Entrepreneurship & Economic Growth and the Kinder Institute for Urban Research. Outside of project management and policy research, she brings experience from internships at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and the Houston Forensic Science Center.
Leyah earned her B.A. in Economics and Social Policy Analysis with a minor in Politics, Law, and Social Thought from Rice University. Through her studies, she participated in community-engaged research at the intersection of environmental justice, sustainability, and economic opportunity in Houston.
